A lot of people are going back to Depression era tactics in order to make a little more money and keep a roof over their heads. Who know that there could be so many benefits to having someone stay in your home? A roommate might make you think of your college days, but it’s really something that’s in your best interest. You are a lot better off making sure that you think about getting a roommate to split the rent with you than trying to deal with the possibility of being evicted. That would just be horrible to deal with, and it’s not a good time to even think about that.

Life is what you make of it, and there’s no shame in getting a roommate. There’s no shame in knowing that you really do need to make sure that you focus on the bigger picture. Sure, there’s going to be some people that value privacy over making sure that all of the bills are paid. We assume that if you’re interested in personal finance that you’re willing to suspend your personal desires in order to get things done. That’s just the only way that you can look at it, really. You either want to get things done or you don’t.

We’re not really trying to be harsh here, but if you’re struggling and looking for ways to stay in your rental home, getting a roommate is definitely a good idea. In fact, you might want to think about if it you’re really trying to fight a mortgage payment as well. Having someone that can come in and pay rent while you take care of things for them is definitely a good idea.

However, you really do want to make sure that you are laying down the law before they even put the keys into the door. Why? Well, in a nutshell you have to make sure that everyone knows the rules ahead of time. The roommate should be able to know that certain things are protected, while other things are going to be expected. Sure, there’s going to be people that really want to push the boundaries, and those are people that you really don’t want to mess with. It’s a lot smarter to make sure that you are really looking at your interests — especially if the lease is in your name.

First and foremost, don’t try to hide a roommate in a rental house. Your landlord isn’t going to automatically kick you out, especially if you try to handle things the right way. Now, if you sneak a roomie in there and your landlord fights out, they might just go ahead and kick you both out. After all, if you’re going to lie about this, what other things might you be hiding. It would be a lot better to try to get things taken care of from the beginning.

This means that you need to not only make a phone call, but you also need to get things in writing. Again, it’s tempting to just think that you’re going to be able to run around making phone calls and that will stand up in court. It is way too easy for the landlord to simply say that the calls never took place, and they weren’t notified.

It’s also easy for them to deny letters if you have no confirmation. You should be able to send some type of certified mail, with a return receipt that’s requested. That will protect you in times where you need to go to court because someone has gone against their word in the past. Having things written down is really just the order of the day.

Don’t be surprised if your landlord wants to make sure that you actually have someone with good credit, good references, and that can put down a security deposit. There is going to be more than one person living there, which means that you’re going to be dealing with a higher possibility of damage. That’s actually what the owner of the house might be thinking.

You will also want to figure out whether or not you’re going to both buy food separately, and who will handle the toilet paper. There are some things that you’re going to have to share, and some things that you’re not going to want to share. You just need to make sure that you are thinking about everything and anything that’s involved with your overall purchase. There’s no reason to feel like it’s impossible to get things done if you really think about it — you just need to push forward and get started as soon as possible.

Make sure that you keep an open mind. Sure, you might want a certain split of the rent, but make sure that you are staying flexible. In a down economy, everyone is trying to get a good deal. It’s better to make sure that you have someone with steady income that’s really going to pay for the home and keep it going. That’s the real goal here!

Ah, weddings. Even though the weather is shifting into more of a cold cycle, that isn’t stopping people from dreaming about a nice fall wedding. However, there comes a point where dreams have to become reality, and reality always comes with a price tag. Sorry if that’s not romantic for you, but the reality is that you will have to make sure that you can pull off a wedding. Far too often people worry about the image that they will have on their wedding day, when they really need to worry about their pocketbooks. It’s been shown that couples cite finances as the top reason for a divorce. Would you really want to start one of the most important phase s of your life badly because you wanted to have a super weeding?

Don’t think that we’re only picking on the women, either — there are some men that feel that they must put on the best show to really prove that they’re a good provider. The reality here is that providing should mean having the best foundation, not the best wedding. If you have your debts in order and an emergency fund in place to catch you when life gets a little too uncertain, then you’re actually in a lot better position than most people would be. It’s something that you will need to make sure that you’re actually thinking of more than anything else.

OK, so let’s get back to the big day, shall we? A lot of people wonder if it’s ever possible to truly save money on a wedding, or if it’s just wishful thinking. The reality is that everything in life is negotiable — especially if it’s popular. You will just need to make sure that you employ a little bit more planning if you can otherwise help it. Indeed, you want to make sure that your partner understands that there are some things that you will spend money on, some things you won’t, and other things that you will compromise on. If you’re going to marry someone, chances are good that you should already know their financial philosophy on life. The last thing that you want is to marry someone that is compelled to spend money no matter what — that’s an imbalance that’s bound to start problems, so you will need to make absolutely sure that you’re ready to handle up on just about anything that comes your way.

You will want to make sure that you set a budget at the beginning that works for both of you. If it’s too high, one of you is going to be upset. If it’s set too low, then the other person might be upset. It’s important to talk things out. After all, if you can’t talk about your wedding, how are you supposed to actually pull a wedding off?

You have to look at everyone’s concerns and then do what feels right. It can be tempting to just assume that you should give in, but think about it — if you’re going to constantly give in when there’s conflict, resentment is going to grow. You’re going to be sick of being the financial voice of reason all of the time. Why not make sure that everyone is in agreement before you start putting actual money into things. That’s all we’re trying to say.

The bottom line is that no one can make you save money on a wedding unless you want to save money on a wedding. You will need to find the times of year where venues aren’t busy in your city and see about negotiating rates. You don’t have to tell people it’s for a wedding. In fact, if you just tell them it’s for a family reunion you’ll probably get better rates. A lot of people tend to raise the price because it’s a wedding, you’re stressed out, and it’s highly likely that you’ll just spend money without thinking about it. Hey, it snags a lot more people than you think.

Don’t give in to the pressure of what your wedding should look like. If you want to get married on a farm and make the whole thing about two thousand dollars, so be it. If you want to go all out and have the dream storybook wedding, then you can do that too. Just don’t sacrifice the things that really matter just to have that big over the top wedding, either. Make sure that it’s something that will leave behind memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime — even if the marriage doesn’t work out. Keep these points in mind and you should be just fine!

Are you ready for retirement? Let’s repeat that one more time: are you really ready for retirement? If you’re really ready to go ahead and move towards retirement, you will actually have a lot more decisions ahead of you. One of the first things that you will need to think about when it comes to retirement is how much money you actually need. You might be surprised to find that you need a lot more for retirement than you think. On the other hand, if you assume that you need a ton of money for retirement, you actually might be surprised to find that you didn’t need as much retirement as you thought you did.

First and foremost, you will want to think about when you actually want to start drawing your retirement money. Now, this number will be different for everyone. Some people will want to actually think about waiting as long as they can to draw an actual retirement, because they want to really enjoy their career for a little bit more. This is the case for people that know that they are close to breaking through to that “final” coveted position in their industry. For example, you might be nearing a time where you can actually break into the executive part of your company, where you would draw an even better retirement package and salary. It’s well worth it to wait until you have a chance to find out whether or not you will actually be able to secure the position before you just declare retirement and end up missing out on a potential opportunity that you wanted very much.

Don’t be afraid to use online calculators to figure out how much you need for retirement. This will help you account for things like inflation, which just means the money that you will need to make in order to maintain the same lifestyle that you did in current times. Inflation is a fact of life, and it’s something that you just have to calculate in.

Another point that you will need to determine is whether or not you’re assuming that your retirement savings will not continue to grow, or if you will be able to count on your money growing with you. This is a matter of continuing to monitor your investments frequently. You will want to make sure that you’re diversified to the point where you will not suffer huge losses by staying in one asset class or another.

As you can imagine, saving for retirement is something that isn’t done overnight, nor is it done in a vacuum. If you are married, then you essentially need to have this conversation twice — your money isn’t just your money, especially if you have your retirement savings in a joint retirement account. There’s a lot to think about, but that doesn’t mean that you have to think about all of these things alone.

Indeed, you will actually be able to get the help of a retirement advisor to really handle these tough questions. You can draw on their extensive experience and knowledge on the subject.

Where do you go from here? Well, you can look up a good financial advisor to start talking about retirement — remember, it’s never too late to think about retirement!

The economy is a worry to most people at the moment. With interest rates so low, many people, who rely on interest as income are finding things very difficult.

Mortgage payers are better off because they are paying less interest but worried because they do not know how long the low rates will last and they may want to make savings while they can but do not know the safest place to put the money. Money is often a worry anyway, even when times are financially good and this is why it is so important to be knowledgeable when it comes to what to do with it.

There are some really good books and websites out there which will give you the basics in good investments and ways to pay off debts which can really make a big difference. However, sometimes there is just not enough time in the day to do this sort of research. This is where it could be worth calling in IFA Nottingham.

Companies like this specialise in giving financial advise and they can help you with things like finding the best interest rate, the best mortgage and the safest place to put your money. It is complicated and there are so many financial institutions offering so many products that this can be the only way to do things these days. Products change regularly, their terms and conditions change as do their interest rates and companies start new products and stop old ones. It can be extremely confusing working out what the pros and cons are of all of the products available.

A financial advisor has to keep on top of all this, which is something that most people just do not have the time to do, which is why it can be worthwhile using them to help you make your financial decisions.

It’s a sad story you hear almost every day. People miss payments or payments don’t get recorded right at the receiving end, and the person making the payments is hit with massive fees. At the very least this is a hassle to deal with and straighten out. At its worst, this situation can utterly ruin lives. If this thought scares you, it should. In an economy where every dollar counts, who can afford to throw money away on completely unnecessary fees?

Technology has made amazing advances in recent years and there are programs available that claim to handle all of your budgetary needs for you. The trouble is that there really is no replacement for the human touch, and there really is something to be said about keeping your records with pen and paper. It has been noted countless times by highly successful people that simply the act writing something down means you are more likely to remember it. Typing it out doesn’t necessarily impart this same benefit, though.

Of course, there is no way to beat the convenience of the technological solutions available. There are many programs available that are full-featured and comprehensive. These programs will monitor and track every aspect of your budget in meticulous detail. This is honestly more than the average American household needs. A simple spreadsheet listing bills, dues dates, and amounts can often be a much better solution. It may take a little more effort but will be considerably less confusing and offers unmatched control and customization, which means you can tailor your budget to your personal taste and situation. Combine this with a simple checkbook – physical or electronic – and you should be able to get a pretty good grasp of your financial situation.

The fact is that many Americans are not taught how to budget when the are children, so they end up making unfortunate mistakes as adults. Teaching your children how to budget can be easy and fun, though, if you come at it from the right angle. Start by teaching them the basics – how to make change, how to balance a checkbook, etc. It’s also important to teach them the value of dollar and how to not waste money. Board games like Life and Monopoly can be an excellent catalyst for this education as they teach good money management skills and offer a great way to bring your family together for some fun.

So whether you decide to keep all of your records on paper or take the high-tech route, it is vital that you keep your financial records in order. Keep track of all your transactions and write down your confirmation numbers for the payments you make. Most businesses are honest and will not actively try to take money they are not owed. However, mistakes do happen, even to the best of us. That is exactly why we use receipts and confirmation numbers, so that lost payments can be tracked down and the problem corrected. Keep your records in order and you’ll have very little to worry about on this front.

Savings plans come in every shape and size imaginable, and you’ve probably got one that has worked for you for years. The trouble, though, is that a savings plan has to grow and change with you over the years or it will lose its effectiveness. Sometimes this is the result of a change in your personal goals. Other times your financial situation changes and you find that you are having a hard time maintaining your savings plan. Either way, it’s a good idea to adjust your plans to make sure everything is still on track.

The first question to ask yourself is, “Why am I saving?” There are countless reasons to put money away, be it for a rainy day, some high priced item you’ve had your eye on, or for you and your family’s future. Of course, each of these goals requires a different strategy to accomplish. Simply stashing some funds away in a savings account is great if all you want is to prepare for emergencies. However, if your goal is a bit more specific, there are often more suitable plans including various investment options and long-term savings such as Certificates of Deposit and Roth-IRA accounts.

But what if your goals are the same as they were when you started with your current plan? What if you simply can’t keep up the pace you set? Well, then it’s time to prioritize. The first step is to find the issue. Did you receive a pay cut? Do you have new expenses that weren’t there when you established the plan? Can you cut back in other areas of your budget to compensate? Don’t be afraid to trim down your savings plan temporarily if it helps you get back on track. The key, of course, is to try and keep it temporary. Remember that every dollar you put into savings gains interest, so every dollar you don’t is worth that much less.

There is, of course, one more reason to adjust your savings plan – you are now in a better financial position than you were when the plan started. Sure, increasing the amount of money you put into the plan is always nice, but it may not be the most efficient solution. The key to long-term security and stability in your savings is diversification. Keeping all your money in one place can be dangerous, so a good adjustment to suit your new situation will often include new forms of savings and investment such as mutual funds and government bonds.

Saving for your future doesn’t have to be complicated. All you need to do is know what your goals are and work toward them. Times may be hard right now, but with a proper savings plan you can make sure that those hard times are entirely temporary. Just don’t be afraid to adjust to changing circumstances and be aware of the limits of your budget.

It’s rapidly becoming a cliche that, in today’s economy, the average American family can’t afford to spend money without good reason. With that in mind, many of us have had to tighten our belts and do what we can to cut back on expenses. Turning off the lights, car pooling to save gas, and opening a window instead of turning on the A/C are all great ways to start, but where do you go from there? How do you cut back even further?

Often, the first place to look for money leaks is in your choice of entertainment. Cable TV, Internet service, going out to eat and other expenses can all be cut back or eliminated entirely without seriously damaging your quality of life. Going for walks, reading books, and playing games with your family easily replace these things, and $10 will go much farther at the grocery store than at Mcdonald’s.

Next are the other luxuries in your life. Manicures, pedicures, and facials are all highly unnecessary and often highly expensive. They can generally be cut with no problem. Now, hair cuts are indeed important. However, it’s easy to wash your hair at home and only get a simple cut, which will usually save you a good amount. You might also consider purchasing a set of clippers for the men in your family. A buzz cut might not be the most fun or attractive look, but it’s quick, simple, and free to do from your own home.

The biggest trick to cutting back expenses is understanding the difference between “need” and “nice to have”. It’s easy to get caught up in thinking that you need television, Internet, a perm or a cheeseburger. The truth is, though, that these things are not necessary. They are simply obstacles to you having money for the things you really need.

So keep an eye on your expense, and don’t pull out your wallet before truthfully asking yourself “Do I really NEED this?” Be consistent, and you’ll quickly find that money isn’t quite so hard to come by as it once seemed.

Our world seems to be a bit pre-occupied with what they can afford. Everyone gets a kick out of spending huge amounts of money on things that they don’t actually need, but that make them look wealthier than they really are. But there is also a lot of pressure to do this, which makes it hard to resist at times. For example, you might wish that you could afford to buy name-brand clothes like the rest of your friends but if you really have to put it all on a credit card, how are you really affording it?

I think that we need to think about what we are doing before we spend money on something because of peer pressure. Swiping your credit card for a big-screen tv might look good to our friends, but we are not going to feel good when the statement comes in and we need that money to pay rent!

Saving Money

You need to live within your means if you really want to be financially stable, but that is not a bad thing. If you make less than your friends, then it is just the natural order of things that determines you might not be able to afford the things that they can afford. Does this mean you are not important? No! it just means that you make less every week. There is nothing wrong with having to be careful about how you spend your money, in fact, you will enjoy life a lot more if you do not pile stress on yourself like this.

Also, there is something to be said for saving up and buying it with cash. Say, for example, that you want a new TV. Well, instead of charging it, put aside some extra money every week, and when you have saved up enough, go out and buy it. You might not be able to get yours when all of your friends are getting theirs, but saving up for it means that you have stayed within your means, and this means that you will feel SO good about it! It is an incredible feeling to buy something with money that you have worked hard for!

If you are into buying clothes, then you probably will notice that buying name brand clothing is tough on the wallet. Well, what you may not have thought about before was the fact that you do not necessarily need to buy new, name brand clothing to keep stocked up in great clothes. Actually, there are a lot of places out there where you can buy used and gently used clothing for a lot less than you can new. And actually, that is not a bad deal, because most gently used clothing is still in style, and it is even broken in for you already!

There are a lot of stores that especially sell trendy name-brand clothing, and these are the types of places where you can save a LOT of money! Where a new pair of trendy jeans may cost you $70 if you were to buy them at the mall, you could buy the same pair of jeans for a lot less. Maybe even under $20 – at a gently used clothing store!

Gently used Clothing store

Because you can save so much money at stores like this, a lot of people have been buying from them, which leads to another problem – how do they renew their stock of gently used clothing, while still keeping costs on the ground? Well, most of these stores will buy your gently used clothing from you, so that they can renew their stock. You can either put this clothing toward new clothes from the same store, or you can just take the cash with you! Even if you don’t sell it for what you bought it for, it is going to do more for you than if it sits in your closet – at least this way you can get some cash out of it.

Entertainment is an expense that a lot of us have trouble with. In a way, you have to have entertainment, because isn’t that what makes life fun? I mean, you work all week, and you deserve to have some fun, so entertainment is necessary. But at the same time, a lot of it is expensive, and some people do not have the money to do things that cost a lot of money.

So, as a result, either people stop spending money on entertainment, or they spend way too much and break their budget. Well, did you know that you can actually fall in the middle? You can actually spend a little bit on entertainment, but still avoid excessively spending. This will still allow you to have some fun, but will not break your budget. Here are some ideas for you on the subject, hopefully, you will find some inspiration here that will help you to figure out the best way to use your entertainment money.

Rent a Movie

First, instead of going to the movies, have a movie night at home! Rent a DVD, get some popcorn, buy your favorite snacks and soda, and have an all out movie bash at home! Hey, you can even watch two or three movies, and you don’t have to leave when it is over! For maximum effect, make it real by turning out all the lights and turning up the surround sound. Clean your house so that it is fresh and enjoyable also, and you can even have some friends over!

You might think that board games are for kids, but why not play them if you enjoy them? I really enjoy having friends over to play Risk or Monopoly – and there are a lot of other games out there. This is a lot cheaper than bowling or going paint-balling, and it can be a lot of fun!

Also, if you enjoy video games, try getting into video games for entertainment! You can get video games to play online with your friends, and it is very inexpensive actually to get into. This can provide endless hours of entertainment, social activity, and even a challenge for you!
